Hear me out regarding alliances. I honestly think it'd be a North German Federation, Russia, France Alliance. France and Russia would end up allying irl anyway and from a geopolitical spot it would make no sense whatsoever for North Germany to alienate either, their border is way too vulnerable to a coalition of two of these states. As the time moves on I expect france to revert to a republic even if Napoleon the third does not lose to a German confederation. The reason being that france already had been on a knives edge and the addition of a German Minority along the rhine might make sense economically but would further serve to destabilize the french government that is very centralized around Paris. Sometime between 1870 and 1900 France would become a Republic. In that same time span Italy would most likely distance itself from North Germany, it doesn't see itself winning a war against the large German Union even with the North added and so politically speaking it's best ally would be Russia. The reason being that even a weakened Austria had still annexed Slavic territory while Russia is positioning itself as protector of the slavs. Russia allying Italy is the most logical move. What I wonder most of all is whether we even get to a double alliance situation where two sides stand against each other. I find it much more likely to have France and Britain to not interfere. I could also see the North German Federation allying itself with the south. That is conditional though, it would only happen if the Prussian state collapses and the north germans form a federation akin to the modern federation where singular states are dissolved into member states without upholding their strengths. They would probably keep their respective monarchies but similar to modern constitutional monarchies those would be largely removed from power and be figureheads. If that type of Northern German Federation comes to pass I can totally see them allying the southern Germans against France to secure the return of what would by them be considered to be ethnic northern germans in the rhineland area!

I'd love a sequel, this is too good! Maybe you can make Spain industrialize in the americas and expand its colonial empire. Napoleon would not allow its strongest ally outside Europe to fall, so I see him helping the spanish become a major player once again the global stage, at least slightly and for some time, which would give Spain enough time and power to begin a rapid and consistent industrialization of its viceroyalties. You can also look up the proposition of the Count of Aranda, which could be reviewed by the spanish monarch to organize some kind of Hispanic Confederation so the empire could survive. Basically: industrialization and reformation of the empire to avoid its collapse.

I do not think that America could contest the British between 1818-1850 before their civil war happens, and it would happen much earlier because of the defeat in 1812. Since the Civil War was a close call, and the 1812-defeat would make it worse, America would take longer to recover, and by the 1870s, Britain had the capacity to win against the Americans in a war and did not get become more concerned with balancing the powers of Europe. America would expand south but not west and the western territories would be given to Canada during the American Civil War. The Americans still become an industrial power but not to the extend we saw in 1890-2025.
